Do dentists in Utah “over-diagnose” treatment? How are you different at Canyon Gate Dental?

Fortunately, there are many good dentists in Utah County and most provide great dental care to their patients.  There are a handful, however, that seem to be overly aggressive in their diagnosis.  These are usually the offices that have massive advertising campaigns, and attract a lot of people with crazy offers like "free exams, whitening, etc. for LIFE!"  Just like your parents hopefully told you when you were young, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  Not infrequently, skeptical patients of such offices will call us for a  "second opinion" and sometimes we'll find a treatment plan that is overly aggressive (or sometimes downright dishonest).  Here's our philosophy: we treat patients like family and close friends.  If we would not feel comfortable recommending a crown to our mothers, wives, or children, we will not recommend it to a patient.

Do you see kids in your office?

A.

We provide dentistry for the entire family, from children to the elderly, and everyone in between.  We have provided great dental care for children as young as two years old in our office.   Please be aware though, that some kids, especially those who are four years old or younger, can be uncooperative and worried at the dentist--we're not going to hold them down and force them to get a dental procedure (sorry to trigger unpleasant memories from your childhood!).  Your child's safety is paramount to us, and if we feel like a pediatric dental office is a more appropriate solution, we will make appropriate recommendations.

Do you do all dental procedures in your office or do you refer to specialists?

A.

We believe in providing comprehensive dentistry and do a wide variety of procedures in our office.  That being said, we will never compromise excellent dentistry for the sake of convenience or profitability.  What we do, we do very well, but if the treatment you need falls outside our expertise, then we will make sure we refer you to a trusted specialist.  Unfortunately many dentists see the profitability of specialist procedures (such as implants, complex surgery, orthodontic care, complex root canals, etc.), get in over their heads without proper training, and cause problems for some of their patients.  In other words, it is simply not practical for a dentist who does one implant case a month to think that they can provide the same level of care as an oral surgeon or periodontist, who does implants all day, every day.  If you have a dental need that requires the skills of a specialist, we collaborate with the best specialist offices in Utah County and will make sure you get excellent care.

Do you guarantee your dental work will last?

A.

We stand by our work.  We use only the best materials, equipment, and dental lab technicians in our office and take the time to do procedures right, without skipping steps. However, we also acknowledge that from time to time unforeseen problems can arise.  For this reason, we are happy to offer our patients a very generous  Retreatment Policy, something very few offices offer.  Our goal is 100% patient satisfaction and we urge you to contact us if you are unsatisfied with your dental work for any reason.

Do you work on Saturdays or evenings?

A.

We open the office at least one Saturday each month and stay until 7:00 pm every Wednesday.  We know your schedule is busy and many times it is not possible to take time away from work or school to come to the dentist.  We will always be flexible for our patients, and that includes after-hour emergency visits that are not scheduled.  If your schedule is extremely prohibitive and these hours still do not work, please call us to discuss; let's make it happen!

Do you take Utah Medicaid?

A.

We do not take Utah Medicaid.  Rather than relying on the government to provide help for needy patients, we do a great deal of charitable dentistry on our own.   We feel strongly that health care providers, including dentists, have a duty and a great opportunity to care for  the needy in our community.  Eligible patients are generally selected based on a referral from a friend, family member, or church leader.

What if I don’t have insurance?

A.

Don't worry, we have you covered.  We created the Canyon Gate Dental Membership Plan for our patients that do not have dental insurance coverage.  It offers deep discounts on almost all procedures in the office, including cleanings, fillings, root canals, extractions, crowns, bridges, and many more.  Call our office today to learn how you can sign up for the plan.

Do you take my insurance?

A.

We are providers for many dental insurance plans.  Browse the following list to see if we accept your particular plan:  Accepted Dental Insurances.  If your plan is not listed, that doesn't mean that we can't accept it.  Call our office to discuss any specific insurance questions.  Frequently we are able provide dental services for patients with insurance plans not on the list - usually at no extra cost to them.  Please be aware, however, that there are a few  insurance plans out there which actually lose money for providers and provide lousy care to patients - some even going as far as providing  incentives for dentists to not see their patients regularly!   If a plan does not allow us to take good care of you and provide excellent dentistry, we steer clear of it.  If you have questions, just give us a call; we would be happy to advise you on your particular insurance situation.
