Aching gums and tooth decay is the prime cause of discomfort among elder citizens. One of the main reasons behind this increase in oral health is they are not able to take care of their health on their own. Therefore, it becomes our duty to make sure they remain healthy and happy.

Do not worry,  it won’t take much time of yours, as just a few steps can make sure that your parents and loved ones are being properly taken care of. All you have to do is follow these two steps.

  • Most elderly people are unable to remember things. Set a reminder for them to clean their mouth and floss twice a day. You can just set an alarm on the smartphone and they will do the rest on their own.
  • Make sure they are regularly visiting the dentist.

Even if you are even if are looking after someone who is confined to bed and is not able to take care of himself or herself, you must ensure cleaning of the mouth. Either take care of it yourself or hire someone to do the same. If oral hygiene is overlooked for a long time, the bacteria from the mouth can reach the lungs causing pneumonia.
