Psychological studies have shown that there are two main regions that a person looks at on another individual’s face. The first is the eye area and the more confident a person is, the longer they’ll look there. The second region is the mouth and teeth, and researchers say that the human mouth can express more about emotions than any vocal conversation can! So, what does your smile say about you? Do you conceal your teeth to avoid showing their color or do you grin like a Cheshire cat? Either way – let’s get to know a few great ways to improve your smile!
Whiten your teeth
Teeth whitening doesn’t need to be expensive; in fact whether you’re at a dental surgery in Salt Lake City or browsing the cosmetic section at your local store – keeping your teeth white is now easier than ever. Whiter teeth promote a fresher, cleaner appearance, and lightening just a few shades by removing stains can make a massive difference to your smile.
Crowns are becoming more and more common as the years go by; and thanks to advances in technology and newer materials being introduced – they are now more durable than ever. A good dentist lab can develop crowns that fit neatly over teeth, before fastening them in place to last for years. They don’t easily stain, and they are easy to replace too; should the worst happen!
One of the most popular methods for almost-instantly improving a smile is to have veneers fitted. These lightweight little ‘shells’ are made in a way that allows them to fit your teeth like caps, and as with crowns, they can last for a great amount of time. Once fastened in place, they can be brushed and polished in much the same way as real teeth and the only draw-back (if it could be considered a draw-back) is that the top layer of your tooth’s enamel will have to be ground down to fit the veneers in as neatly as possible.
As technical as their name may sound, tooth implants are actually one of the quickest and easiest ways to improve a smile – especially if you have missing teeth. A dentist will apply a local anaesthetic to your gum line, and then drill in to the gum itself. With the hole prepared, the replacement ‘tooth’ can be implanted in to the mouth and then used just like regular teeth! Although uncommon, some people dislike their teeth so much that they opt to have their own removed, in favor of implants.
Flossing and Brushing
One of the most traditional methods of improving your teeth is via brushing and flossing. Dentists recommend that you brush at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. It’s always a good idea to floss between meals to remove traces of food caught between teeth and with consistent practice your entire mouth will look and feel cleaner, for longer!
